*FULL HOUSE*
Coming up on May 3rd, 6:30 pm - Another Song Circle hosted by Jen Katt
Kevin has written many songs over the years, but became more prolific and performance-oriented since his move 20 years ago to Woodstock in the delightful Shenandoah Valley. He found there a tight community of musicians, songwriters, and friends to play music with and for. He has recorded three CDs of original songs and this summer will record what will be his fourth. His songs cover the usual suspects of song topics: love songs, sad songs, happy songs, deep songs, light-hearted songs, funny songs – basically, songs about being human. He plays at breweries and vineyards near home and gets to the Folk Club of Reston & Herndon as often as possible, despite the distance, because it is such a special place always filled with good people who are attentive music enthusiasts.
DC-area native Greg Vickers has been playing guitar, banjo and harmonica with local rock and folk groups and as a solo singer-songwriter since the late ‘70s. He grew up in McLean, VA, and got his first guitar soon after hearing John Prine’s eponymous debut album in the early ‘70s. A few of Greg’s humorous songs won recognition in the Mid-Atlantic Song Contest and the Mountain Stage New Song Festival back in the early 2000s, but he’s equally proud of his “straight” songs about love and other not-quite-normal stuff. Greg has long been a member of the Folk Club of Reston & Herndon and has participated in numerous funny song nights and festivals in the DMV. Greg recently moved to Charles Town, WV, after retiring in 2024, and he currently coordinates musicians for the Charles Town Farmers Market.
Sherry began playing guitar by accident. In 2004, when the family moved to the Grand Teton National Park, one of her two pre-teen daughters brought along an electric guitar that nobody knew how to play. To combat boredom and connect with people, Sherry signed everyone up for guitar classes. When school started, soccer won out over guitar lessons but Sherry had become smitten with the prospect of accompanying herself while singing her favorite songs. At a jam session that her guitar teacher invited her to, Sherry met a woman who soon became her best friend and singing partner. Over the years, Sherry’s love of music has expanded into songwriting and mandolin playing, with flute added here and there. She’s amazed at the wonderful folks she’s met through music, every one of them a kindred spirit in one way or another. She is delighted to be performing at Al’s Arts Barn as a solo act; she hopes you’ll enjoy the show!
Marilyn was born to American parents on the Canadian prairies of Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. She has dual citizenship and has a love of folk and popular music from both the United States and Canada. Marilyn sang in choirs and studied music from a young age, and all her family were and continue to be involved in music in some way. Church music was particularly present in her childhood, but other influences included popular music, Broadway shows and classical music. While pondering her path in life she heard about music therapy and never looked back. She is grateful that she’s been able to use music as a catalyst in her work with clients of varying ages, preferences, and abilities, resulting in an extensive repertoire of songs. Marilyn has written many songs with some of her clients. She will share some of these co-writes as well as songs she wrote for herself.

Dan Perriello is a born drummer. When his parents couldn’t afford a drum set or lessons, Dan began air drumming with chopsticks – reading, watching and listening to everything he could to teach himself drums. Finally acquiring a vintage Rogers set two agonizing years later, he joined his first band and played his first gig within months. In the more than 30 years since, Dan has performed with countless top Washington, DC musicians at major venues such as the 9:30 Club, HFStival, and Nationals Park, opening for acts ranging from Andrew WK and Gavin DeGraw to comedian Bob Sagat.
