Sunday, January 26th, 6:30pm - Another Folk Club Song Circle!
Barb Keeler
Barb Keeler was born many years ago on a chilly November day in the upper left corner of the contiguous U.S. Because her dad was an Army physician, Barb and her three siblings were dragged hither and yon as the military sent them back and forth across the U.S. and the vast Pacific Ocean. Somewhere along the way – maybe Okinawa, Arizona, Texas? – she learned to play the guitar. She also learned to fish and hunt and race jeeps, and she once bagged two deer with a single shot and has won numerous trophies for her rut-digger talents!… but wait, it’s music we’re talking about right now…. Barb is very good at music and occasionally pens a song of her own, often acerbic with a good dash of sarcasm. For the song circle, she will share some of her original music with you. So pay attention, there might be a test afterward.
Ron hails from the Shenandoah Valley of Virginia and loves storytelling. He has enjoyed singing since he was little growing up in his hometown of Front Royal. Ron has fond memories of harmonizing with his mother, who had to remind him not to step on her notes when they sang together! Ron started playing drums in 1961 and came to guitar in 1970 after his first wife gave up the one he bought her; he’s enjoyed playing both ever since. Ron backs up dozens of contemporary folk singers from the DC area and beyond and has been an active leader in the arts community for many years, appearing on dozens of award-winning albums, with credits for singing, playing, co-writing, producing, and arranging. Ron is a 7-time Wammie winner for Most Supportive of Washington Music and has produced unique variety showcases/concerts at multiple venues in the DMV. He is on the Board of The Folk Club of Reston-Herndon and supports Chords of Courage, which uses songwriting as a catalyst for social change.
John Druitt
John Druitt loves music as a way to bring people together. Born overseas to an American family, he grew up in countries like Bolivia, Algeria, Cameroon, Arizona, Indonesia, and Morocco. His parents told him he couldn’t carry a tune in a bucket. He is left-handed and dyslexic but plays guitar in standard right-hand configuration. Now that he has figured out which hand goes where, John’s avid curiosity and eclectic tastes have taken him across a spectrum of styles from folk, blues, rock, and samba to classical and slack-key guitar. His original songs are not necessarily autobiographical but he hopes to bring authenticity to his performance of each one.
Avery Anderson
Avery was born and raised in Northern Virginia. She is 20 years old and currently finding her voice and place in the world of music. She’s been singing since before she could walk and picked up her first guitar 5 years ago. Songwriting is her latest musical endeavor. She is excited and grateful to be a part of The Folk Club of Reston-Herndon, which she references as “a most inspiring and supportive group of musicians.” Outside of music, Avery enjoys gardening, boxing, exploring the great outdoors, and spending time with family and friends.

Sunny@Midnight
As Sunny@Midnight, Jeff Smith and Sherry Stewart’s songs reflect their personalities of combined light and dark shades of comic relief, drama and rhythmic verve. Smith brings the dark stomp and happenstance to Stewart’s lightness of spirit and sensibilities.
Smith is a poetic bluesman, whose lyrics tell stories that evolve through their verses and culminate in choruses that often change perspective. Singing in a honey-drenched Appalachian drawl, multi-instrumentalist Smith lays down a funky kind of “countrybluesfolkpoprockstomp”. His songs have appeared in television shows, such as “Young Sheldon”, “The Young and Restless”, “Army Wives”, and in European TV ad campaigns.
Sherry Stewart is a multiple award winning songwriter who writes songs about people, places and things that have left an impression on her. Themes often evoke nature and leave the listener with a sense of longing heightened by her angelic voice and vocal harmonies. She plays mandolin, guitar, and flute.
Sunny@Midnight’s quintet lineup adds fiddle virtuoso Marcy Cochran (Dead Man’s Hollow) John Werntz (Shenandoah Run) on bass, and Ron Goad (DC area man about town) on percussion. Together, they infuse this music with energy and an emotional intensity that delivers an entertaining and unforgettable musical experience.
Their first Recording together is “Break My Heart’ and is getting airplay across the country.

Abbie Gardner is a fiery dobro player with an infectious smile. Whether performing solo or with Americana harmony trio Red Molly, her acclaimed tales of love and loss, both gritty and sweet, are propelled by her impeccable lap style slide guitar playing. Solo performances feature the dobro as a solo instrument, bouncing between a solid rhythmic backbone and ripping lead lines, all in support of her voice and songs. Her latest recording DobroSinger hit #11 on the Billboard Blues Chart. It’s intimate, real and raw – her dobro and voice recorded at the same time at home, without a band or any studio tricks to hide behind. You can hear every breath, every chuckle, as if you are in the room with her.

“Gellman’s sensitive songcraft incorporates simple but evocative slice-of-life imagery, homespun folk warmth, keen pop instincts, and crisp, first-rate musicianship.” (Taylor Guitars) Never has this been more true than on All You Need (2023), Gellman’s 10th indie release. In this follow-up to Cold Harbor (2021) – a dark, but necessary, album tackling the impact of mental illness – All You Need emerges on the other side with hope, levity, and, of course, acceptance.
Gellman has traveled near and far to perform at renowned acoustic music venues throughout the United States and Canada including the Birchmere in Alexandria, the Ark in Ann Arbor, the Blue Bird Café in Nashville, the Tin Angel in Philadelphia and Club Passim in Boston. In Washington, DC, he has performed at the venerated National Theater and the most sought after venue of all, The White House. Steven has had the honor to open shows for Dar Williams, Cheryl Wheeler, Richie Havens, Richard Shindell and Al Stewart among others.
